Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is a city on the coast of the Caribbean sea. About 1500 years ago the current Playa del Carmen (at that time called Xaman-Ha, which means "water of the north" in the Mayan language) used to be a port and rest stop for people making their way to the island of Cozumel. Nowadays Playa del Carmen is a popular place for travelers from all over the world. With crystal clear waters and stunning white beaches Playa del Carmen holds every ingredient for a tropical paradise. Besides the beautiful beaches Playa del Carmen also offers a long boulevard called the 5th avenue. The 5th avenue (also referred to as "quinta") offers a many dining places, bars and shops.

The fact that the lands of Yucatan were ruled by the Mayans for hundreds of years still supplies tourists with many possibilities to discover the secrets of this fascinating civilization. The Tulum ruins, the Coba ruins and ruins of Chichen Itza, that is one of the new seven world wonders, are all close to Playa del Carmen. Besides the ruins there are also tons of other activities like Xcaret, Xplor and Xel-Ha.
